This week was certainly a challenge. From the extended day on Monday, the shortened day on Tuesday and the Rockdale vs. Chattahoochee game on Friday, we had our fill. We are excited about the weekend.
This week is going to be very different and should be celebrated!
Today students will have the chance to watch the Solar Eclipse through a high powered telescope. How high powered? This morning as we were setting it up, we were checking out sun spots!! We will stream the feed beginning around 1pm and running until 4pm. You can watch on the front page of www.rockdalelive.com.
Tomorrow is our first advisory council meeting of the school year. Our advisory council consists of industry professionals from several companies in the area. These amazing people advise us on industry trends, changing technologies, and help us find opportunities for our students.
Tomorrow is also an early release day. Students will only be in class at RCA for an hour so the lessons will be thick with content. All of the teachers get to spend time together learning from each other in professional development meetings.
Wednesday and Thursday are back to normal (whatever that is) but Friday will be another day in the newsroom. The middle school students may attempt to produce their first newscast while the "B" day high school students get their first crack at being in the newsroom.
Friday night we will present the Rockale vs. Chattachoochee football game live from Reid Memorial Stadium. Look for more details and stories about the bulldogs this week as we prepare for the game.
Watch the Salem vs. Heritage football game anytime on demand below.
There were some technical difficulties but we had a great broadcast once we got those worked out. Audio is our next growth point as well as adding an additional camera on the field which will happen next week for our game between Rockdale and Chattahoochee.
Thank you to everyone who watched. We greatly appreciate your support.
This week Mr. White spent some time with Salem Seminoles Head Football Coach Jarrett Laws as Coach Laws and the Seminoles continued a very distinguished tradition.
Mr. White's footage was used to instruct new members of the Sports Broadcast Institute on how to gather, log, and edit a news package.
It was another great week. Students are starting to setting in to their new schedules and work is starting to take place. All RockdaleLive.com students worked on their resume and website this week to either create them or polish them.
The 1st year students can expect to learn about basic video production equipment and the safe handling of the equipment next week.
The Sports Broadcast Institute students are working on their first round of assignments and getting ready to start working on their first live newscast! Next week is the last week without daily scripts so they are watching, reading, and listening to more sports news every day.
On the live broadcast front, we had a great meeting with the University of Georgia's Sports Media program as we prepare for our live broadcast schedule. We are also in talks with other institutions about some new relationships as well.
It has been a great two weeks and I look forward to the new things we are going to experience this year.
- Mr. White
As we wrap up the first week of the new school year, we are excited to present new challenges and opportunities for our students.
This summer, we repurposed an audio studio to create a new space for the students to create live news broadcasts. This new space has been outfit with new cameras from industry leader, Blackmagic Design, master control software from Telestream Wirecast, broadcast graphics by NewBlue FX and more.
This year is excited as we have added new students to the family including 21 8th grade students from Conyers Middle School. These students will be taking advantage of an opportunity to complete the 1st year course while still in middle school. This means they will have more opportunity to work in the industry later in their high school career.
As we finish the administrative period of the semester, we will begin putting out video content as early as today!
If you are interested, you can look over the High School 1st year syllabus and the Sports Broadcast Institute syllabus below. We are still polishing the Middle School 1st year syllabus but will post it early next week.

We are looking forward to a great year.
Check out this episode of Mic'd Up with Heritage High School Baseball Head Coach Shane Ramsey. This episode was shot at Red Devil Hill in Jackson Georgia. The game has everything you would want from early scores, arguments with umpires and a squeeze play (or 3).
Special thanks to JVC for the use of the GY-HM200sp sports production camera to give us an opportunity to shoot in 4k. Also huge thanks to Coach Mickey Moody and the Jackson High School Red Devils for agreeing to be a part of this feature.
Watch as the Heritage Patriots host the Alcovy Tigers in this Region 3-AAAAAA matchup.
The Rockdale Bulldogs played host to region foe Newton on Wednesday night. The Bulldogs struggled to get their offense going until the 3rd inning when they put up 5 runs to take a 5-3 lead.
The Bulldogs then went on to score in each of the remaining innings. Rockdale won 10 - 5 to win the series with game 3 to be played on Friday at Newton.
Check out pics and video from the game below.
